These volunteer poppies appear in my front garden every summer, creating beautiful clusters of orange next to the blues and lavenders in the rest of my garden. Perhaps they were introduced by one of the birds that frequents my garden. It's a thrill to see the poppies return year after year without needing anything more than some water and space to bloom.
In this watercolor, I tried to convey a sense of their glowing "orangeness" (is that a word?) after a morning rain. I especially had fun learning to paint the raindrops on their delicate petals!
