Starfish, more properly called Sea Stars, are abundant in the ocean waters of the Pacific Northwest where I live.  One of my favorite ways to see them is when I kayak to the rocky interface between land and sea where the Sea Stars like to hang out just below the water line.  Their bright ochre and purple colors glow in their watery homes.

I wanted to recreate the often whimsical poses of the Sea Stars as well as create a light-hearted version of one of my favorite sea creatures!
